What kind of bread is this?
The Cranberry Walnut Sourdough bread is a sibling of the Classic Sourdough Loaf.
Although the Cranberry Walnut and the Classic Sourdough loaves share their origins, the addition of fruit and walnuts is spectacular. This loaf still requires two days to prepare like the Classic Sourdough, but there’s some additional time required to prepare the cranberry and walnuts. It would be a mistake to just mix and bake, mind you. That being said, when carefully prepared, the texture of cranberries and walnuts are smooth and tender with no discernible mushiness.
While the Classic Sourdough Loaf is a staple, the Cranberry Walnut Sourdough is a dessert indeed! Be forewarned that if you like sourdough, then you’ll absolutely love this bread. This Cranberry Walnut Sourdough bread is single-handedly responsible for spouses playing a challenging game of hide-the-bread so that every bite can be secretly savored. Be kind, order a second.
What does it look like?
Rest assured that you don’t have to cut the bread open to detect the delicious treasures hiding within. The Cranberry Walnut Sourdough is visibly distinguishable from that of regular sourdough by the cranberries that dot the surface as they are peeking through the crust. If you happened to order a decorated loaf, you might be distracted at first by the flowing work of art upon the bread crust. Take a second glance and you’ll discover the ‘X’ marks the spot for this yummy treasure.
What foods does it pair well with?
This bread is naturally sweetened by the cranberries so it’s not overpowering, but it’s certainly obvious. This bread makes for a fantastic breakfast item or a snack during the day. Some meals that would normally have helpings of fruits with them will also pair with this fruity bread. We have found that our Cranberry Walnut Sourdough loaves magically turn into crumbs on the cutting board by the end of the day.
